High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
I just finished installing a Zeitronix Wideband 02 controller w/ WB sensor and now i have some wicked high pitched interference coming through my speakers. Nothing I installed is even close to my RCA cables or deck. It is close to my amp power cable and the speaker wire for my RF speaker and thats it, but I did not think that would cause this interference. If I unplug either side of the WB02 controller it goes away. What could be up?

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
A friend of mine has a 2000 LS1 car and had installed an AEM wideband and had similar problems. He had obtained power for the gauge from the radio curcuit in the fuse panel. Once he relocated the power tap to a different circuit, the noise went away. Im not sure how the gauges get wired as I never put one in, but making sure it has an excellent ground is always a good starting point for eliminating any system noise issue. Good luck.

I actually have it installed to the ECM ignition wire, Pink/blk. I grounded it to the chassis behind the passenger side kick panel. Any better place to ground it?

I guess a good rule of thumb on any ground is the shorter, the better. Also make sure it is a good metal-to-metal contact, no paint.
Im not sure how much the gauge ground will help in this case, as it was more of a positive lead issue for my friend (as far as his circuit he tapped), but it wont hurt to make it as good as possible.

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
Well my WB controller has 3 grounds. Two go to the chassis, to an uncoated sheet metal screw in a hole I drilled in the chassis after filing the paint off. The wire is about 2 feet long. The other one goes directly to a ground terminal on my ECM. I'll have a hard time shortening these. I guess I'll just leave my WB in only while tuning and remove it for normal driving so I can use my stereo.

Ground loop? Are you using more then one ground for the audio? What's the make and model of the HU? Is the noise coming from speakers powered by the HU or powered by an amp?

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
I have a Pioneer HU (3 or so years old?) and an Audiobahn 4 channel 200W amp. What do you mean more than one ground for the audio? I have the stock ground behind the HU and then a ground for my amp in the back.
I also have slight engine noise coming in (the kind that varies with RPM), but that has always been there. Perhaps I can eliminate both of these problems with one solution?

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
What model Pioneer?
Do you have a DMM? You need to check for continuity between the HUs chassis and the RCA ground (out side part of the RCA jack on the HU). This should be a vary low resistance. If you don't have a DMM pull the HU out so you can get to the back and use a clip lead, small piece of wire, or small flat blade screwdriver. With the HU playing and the wide-band noises there, use the clip lead to short the RCA ground to the chassis or the HU. If the noise goes away when you do this you have an open fuse on the RCA ground. Any questions on how to do this?
Post back what you find.

DEH-2700
I ran a new ground from the head unit directly to the chassis and the problem still exists. It seems if I turn the WB controller a certain way it goes away. However it doesn't seem to matter how far away it is. And I can't place it permanantly where it doesn't make the sound.

With the wb connected, and the stereo on, with the interference, is there any volt dropage, or spiking?

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
What about running a ground from the head unit to the amp's grounding location? Years, and I do mean YEARS,ago we did this if we used certain brands. It usually knocked out the whine.
Just a thought. Might be a idea though.

Re: High pitched interference with installation of wideband 02/controller
No difference in grounding the exterior of the RCA cable connector to anything, including the HU chassis. I guess my only solution now is to only run the WB when I need it for tuning, which means taking it out of the exhaust and plugging the hole, unless anybody else can think of something.
