What are some good 17" wheels? Pics??

I'm looking into 17" wheels that are at least 9.5" wide. I kind of like the ROH ZS 17X9.5's but it seems like they're kind of common. I also like the SS/ZR1 style 17X11's (9.5's in front of course) but I'm just looking for other ideas. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money so custom ones are out of the question. Please give me suggestions and advice. Pics are great also.

i think a 5 spoke wheel looks best on 3rd gen fbodies. which 5 spoke is another decision altogether. personally, i think the rounded 5 spoke looks good (i.e.: AR TT2's, boyd coddington smoothies, etc.), or you could go with a star shaped 5 spoke...tough call though.

im sure you can find tons of pics of TT2's on thirdgens (or any other car for that matter ).

Check out the line of Boyd Coddington Wheels. I fell in love with the Smoothies II and the Stingrays there are others that I like also. And they are verry reasonable priced. Around $1,200- $1,400 depending on what size you want.

I don't know how Chrome Illusion piant can be black and white. Actually that would be pretty f'n sweet. I wouldn't be able to give you a price for the labor or anything like that cause my pops painted it for me. I paid almost a 1K just for the paint. That paint is awesome and it has just been wetsanded and polished. And that pic was dirty as hell the car was in that spot for 4 weeks. But I would guess that the total paint job if I was to have someone do it all for me would be close to $8,000 if not more. I wouldn't mind paying for that paint.

Shotgun,
Who owns that black RS with the ROH ZS wheels? I'd like to find out the sizes they are running and tires sizes.
I just contact JD Wheels and they are saying:

I have 17x9.5 Silver ZS's 5:4.75 +05 mm offset in stock. I will sell them
to you, but I will need paid by postal money order and they will sold on a
no return basis...due to fitment, because I show it's a tuner fitment (car
will need modified).

Some people plan on modifing their car to make it work. Also, some people
that put the 9.5's all the way around, may not specify it's been modified.

I have no problem selling them but I need to advise you of the fitment
situation. We have done many of these cars.

Would these 17x9.5 fit my ride without any problems? This company seems to think it needs to be modified...? I thought we could run 17x9.5 with little to no probs.

badgta, those actually look really good. Do you have any more pics? What did you have to do to get them to fit?

Im looking for wheels too, actually I bought the Cragars from Jegs, but when I got them, there was stains all over. Jegs says if all four are like that, then thats the way there made and thats the way we sell them.

Cmon - can someone please help me out with this? I just need to know if JDWheels is correct and how they do not recommend 17x9.5 in the front. I know it can be done, but with the ROH ZS wheels? Also is the backspacing she's giving me correct? I know in inches not in mm offset stuff.

Sals82Z28,
I didn't have any problems fitting my 17 X 9.5's in front. They have a 5" B/S. But the 17 X 12's in the rear, well.... that's another story!! But they should fit. I run a 275/45/ZR17 in the front, and at full lock to the left, they will slighty scrub if I'm backing up. They have never done it going forward though.

Bassettracing,
Thank you so much for the info. Do you know how much +05 mm offset is? Your ride looks so awesome, is there a lowering kit? Thanks again for answering my question.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "+05", but I can tell you:

5mm is .1968" or a little over a 3/16 of an inch.

50mm is 1.968" which is almost 2"

.5mm is only .0019 which is less than a human hair!!

So double check, and see exactly what offset it is in metric.

As far as my car goes, I have Hotckis lowering springs, but I ended up cutting a 1/2 round off of those because I wanted it just a little lower. It also has several other suspension mods. Go
here and you can what all I've done it. I have an 82 Z28 also, so you can check it at the same site. The Navigation on my page is at the top.

I have no clue whos car it is, I picked the pic up about 6months ago, I saw it somewhere on this board. As far as ordering, go to www.skulte.com they have some good prices, and the thirdgen specific offsets. You can talk to skulte about the return and fitment policy and all that jazz.
Hope this helps...

Well here go my suggestions, some of them arent avail. in a 9.5" wide, but quite a few that arent are cheap enough that you could afford to have them widened 1-1.5" if you like them....

Thanks. Fitting the 17 X 12's took quite a bit of massaging to the inner fenderwell. The rear tires are 335/35/ZR17's, and they actually measure a little over 13" at the cross-section, So they are still pretty tight, but I eventually got the wheelwell pushed back enough so they wouldn't scrub, but it was a helluva job! The Hotchkis Springs do ride rougher than any factory ones I've even seen, but them, along with the other suspension mods made my car very fun to drive, and it handles excellently. It was definetly worth the effort!
