Didnt i read a post of yours, complaining about your maddog trans, having a soft 1/2 shift on the transmission board?

When you have many people stating the same complaints about Mad Dog it is clear that there is an issue with his products. Looking back on it I guess you get what you pay for.

Where else can you get a tranny for that cheap and have it last? Some deals are to good to be true. This is one of them. Maybe a call the BBB might change his ways of doing business.

Here is a link to the site where you can file a complaint. Never know if we all file complaints then maybe something good will come of it:

Sounds like a good idea....What is most disturbing is my auction stated a 1year warranty. As does most of them, look for yourself. But on my sales receipt it states 3 months or 3000 miles thats what i was bound too. And what i was told. Never realized it untill later. Does anyone have there sales receipt does it state 3 months like mine?

About the warranty if you look there now, is a 250.00 deductable, on all repair work. So if you buy one of there trannys, and it goes out even if its there fault. You still have to pay 250.00 to repair it. Right? Doesnt sound like such a great warranty to me.

I still have the trans sitting in my garage and the auction print out stating exactly whats in it as far as parts go. One day i plan to open it up and find out for myself whats in it.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Mine lasted about 20 miles. Im going to pick up the new one on thrusday, hopefully better. He supposedly threw in a free upgrade to the punisher line. So I cracked open the servo to see if it was a billet and it was! Tranny lasting 20 miles could have been my fault with the cable but who knows. So heres some pics the servo looks alright, I think but I don't know about these units.

Those photos are a stock servo with an aftermarket corvette 2nd apply servo.
It is not billet.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I feel for those who didn't know any better. After all, with his ebay front and his customers leaving feedback directly after purchase, no wonder he's still selling crap. doesn't do any good to leave positive feedback on a TRANSMISSION before you even get to run it a good month or so...

If more people had access to resources like TGO that man woulda been out of business a long time ago...

Some of those prices you could buy a probuilt, and we all good in well know their reputation.

Good luck.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Well i wish i could of seen this post earlier....I jsut bought mine in January. I had to take mine back to them twice because it wouldnt down shift at wot, and the shift points were too early. They stood behind their transmission though they told me that if i had any more problems they would give me a brand new transmission. and i have the 1 year waranty. I live not too far away from them so I didnt buy from them on ebay.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Which one....we've been through three. First one wouldnt work upon arrival. After my son spent a ton of money on labor to pull out his stock tranny for this "High Performance" junk Maddog sold us. When round two happended only 100 miles into the second "High Performance" transmission, requiring more labor, a tow bill and freight back to MadDog, they sent a third which has now failed after only two weeks. I would not buy anything from these people again in the future, and hope anyone considering such...will take a second look at their track record.

True but you still leave a record that you sent a complaint and it must be filed by the BBB. Now for any reason if there is any litigation the BBB have to relinquish all complaints that had been made if requested.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I don't mean to dig up an old thread but...

I'm trying to contact Mad Dog Transmissions. I left a message last Thurs (7 Jun) and Mon and Tues of this week I get a recording that the mailbox is full. Today (Wed, 13 Jun) the message is the line has been disconnected or no longer in service.

I paid $1700 for a godfather 700r4 last Dec, and it has never run right. The tranny shifts to early (around 1000rpm) and won't downshift. At 30mph I'm in overdrive If I manually downshift it, it sometimes will drop into 2nd, but does it later on when it feels like it, which is always a surprise.

This vehicle is a money pit and I just want to get it working. Since I had the tranny installed I've only been able to put 500 miles on it...

Does anybody know what is going on at Mad Dog?

I had some dealings with them about two months ago, I delt with them by email. I was trying to by some extra pressure switches and solenoid for my godfather transmission, kept getting the foreign guy who couldn't do anything for me. I was able to go around him and contact Lou and he shipped me what I needed free of charge because of my troubles...again this was about two months ago..they could be on vacation..

I'll post whatever phone numbers and emails I have when I get home tonight.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I finally spoke to someone at MadDog. I got their personal phone number by calling all the numbers I could find for them, and one voice recording listed it.

According to him, MadDog transmissions closed about a month ago and is bankrupt.

By my paperwork, my tranny (godfather) should have:
- 13 high-temp Raybestos clutches
- all new steel bands, bushings and rings
- 550 boost valve
- 29 element sprag
- over-sized heat treated Sonnax sun shell
- hardened input shaft
- N drum
- Sonnax wide-open throttle valve, high temp pro series
- Raybestos Kevlar band
- Corvette servo

I have an appointment Wed at a local shop to tear down the tranny and evaluate the situation. I checked my odometer and there is under 400 miles on this tranny, my warranty was 12 months/12k miles.

Based on our findings, I might have more info after Wed...

AAHAHAHa thank you 1991CamaroRslow.
johngoodfella is the same person. He offers the same services and close to the same parts, and on his ebay store page it says "we build any transmission from mild to wild" and it says the same thing on the maddog page. Deffinitely stay away from johngoodfella.

My opinion: The trend I have noticed is the people that still have working transmissions have bought their tranny years ago. Another member has stated that Mad Dog Lou no longer works on the trannys anymore, so quite possibly they used to be good, but blow (pun not intended) now. Thats just my two cents. Either way, good thing I saw this post.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I *THINK* and this is still a maybe, that one of my friends may have gotten ROYALLY ****ed by Mad Dog recently. Right before they quit listing transmissions he bought a 4L60e from eBay despite me basically begging him to go with Probuilt. He did go with an Edge 3600rpm converter but the transmission was bought from eBay and hasn't shown up yet. First they say that they sent it and the address was undeliverable (which was possible) then he says that he built the wrong style transmission and he had to get another core to build a PWM style 4L60e, all of this was AFTER they claimed that the original case he got to build up was cracked. Hopefully it's a coincidence but I'm guessing Mad Dog has "gone out of buisness" aka swapped names and ****ed everyone with a warranty and isn't in any hurry to send him a trans. I'll post up if anything happens.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Anyone else get a refund besides me? After I reported them to BBB and went to their shop on a daily basis I got a full refund. Week later they closed up shop. Also I called up goodfellas the other day just to see how they were doing told the girl my name and asked for Elliot and they told me he was on vacation. But I heard him in the background say "hang up on him". So its the same place. Man I wanted to ask him so bad whats with the name change. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM!

My name is JohnTsikouris and I am the owner of Goodfellas Transmissions. I am in no way shape or form in any relation to Maddog Transmissions or to Lou Koulouvaris. I am a stand up business owner and I have actually helped out a lot of customers that Maddog Transmissions has burned. So I would make sure that you and the rest of these people get there facts straight. If I have to I will take legal recoarse to the website. My address is 215 Tarpon Industrial drive, Tarpon Springs, Florida 34689.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I went to the Goodfellas website to see if there was something that says how long they've been in business, I couldn't find anything.

Most websites will usually have something in the "about us" section that gives a full bios of the business, pictures of the staff, and at least a little info of how long they have been in business. Whether it be "We we founded in 1988" or " We have been doing transmissions for over thirty years"

I would like a little background information on Goodfellas, I may be purchasing a new transmission soon and will be shopping around.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

I purchased a "Punisher" back in March. First test drive was last week. Sloppy shifts. I'm pulling it back out and having a local shop go through it. Live and learn. Same thing happened to me with a crate motor. Lesson: have local shops do your motor and tranny work I guess.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

My :
Both my girlfriend and I bought Punisher 700-R4's with "stage 2" shift kits in March '06. One went into her stock '89 IROC, and the other went into my '90 RS which has a 450 hp / 425 ft-lb 350. Mine lasted not more than about 16000 daily-but-hard driven miles (flooring the pedal at lights) until I lost 3rd and 4th gear on the highway, which I'm assuming is a 3-4 clutch pack failure. This was the day after I added a deep Derale cooler pan and new fluid (failures seem to be common after a fluid change). I am currently driving the IROC as a back-up and the tranny in it hasn't failed...yet.
One important note I must make is that the stock tranny-fluid-to-engine-coolant-heat-exchanger in the radiator was bypassed in both installations and instead the fluid passes only through a plain 7" X 15" tube-and-fin auxiliary cooler in front of the radiator. A couple weeks before mine failed, out of curiosity I installed a temperature sensor on the RS and learned that once warmed up, the fluid temp usually hovered around 220-230 F! Without the use of at least the stock heat exchanger in the radiator or fan it would take a very large or very efficient cooler to keep a 700-r4 in the appropriate temperature range by itself.
I can't immediately blame Maddog for a junk tranny BUT I will be doing my own tear-down and rebuild. I will let you all know of any interesting findings. I would really like to see how exactly they accomplished the blocking of the 1-2 & 3-4 accumulators to firm up the shifts, which in my current understanding is a major no-no if you know what you're doing.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Wow, I wish I'd have found this site sooner...Back in late November of 06 I purchased the gangster transmission for my '93 chevy silverado, 5.7L. Nothing special about this truck, I found maddog through ebay, I watched his video, believed his bull, and bought one. After 2 and a half months, something went way wrong. I'm no expert, so I can't tell you exactly what it was, something that would cause me to lose drive completely after about 7 minutes of driving...turn it off for 15, drive for 7 more...boy did it suck getting home when it first happened. I then spent a month listening to Lou's instruction, as he had me do certain things to it to try and fix it...Anyhow...after finding out that the warranty licked the big one, I paid the deductible and had them ship me a new one (I'm in texas, so yeah, I screwed up bigtime). Well, the new one, oh, these are both 700R4s by the way, as Elliott talked me into getting (one of the managers at the shop)...I digress. The new one, didn't work from day one. No 3rd gear whatsoever. Shifts straight from 2nd to 4th or overdrive, whatever. Well, not a week after I talked to them about shipping that transmission, I call back to tell them that I've got issues with the new one...and I can't get ahold of anybody. For the next 3 months I called 3 times a day and left messages, and sent emails. Not once has an email been responded to or a call returned. And now I see that their website isn't even up anymore. What a LOAD of garbage this fellow is. After having a real transmission expert look at my truck (recently) I've been convinced that Lou is a flaming idiot and knows nothing about transmissions, so I'm just going back with a 4L60E and have it built by somebody who has a clue. If anybody knows how to get ahold of maddog, please let me know, I have 2 transmissions of theirs that I want to get rid of, and I'd love my money back, or some kind of restitution. DON'T BUY FROM MAD DOG!!!

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

Hmm, sorry to say, I found this message board WAAAAAAY too late. I purchased one on a "special" in May. I bought it for my street rod I'm building. Since I was in the process of mocking up the frame with all next X member, ladder bar rear, tubular Mustang front, fuel and brake lines, I haven't even fired up the motor yet. When I completed all fabrication, I set out disassembling it to for paint. This caused me to start double checking everything BEFORE I paint and reassemble. THAT'S when I found this board and others complaining about Maddog Transmissions. I immeadiately took mine to a performance transmission company here in central Iowa that builds racing transmissions. He tore it apart and yesterday came back with the verdict: "JUNK". Not only are there old used parts, but incorrect parts (converter, spline shaft, sleeves, etc.) but they never even cleaned out the tranny before the rebuild. He found old grease and gunk between the gears and the pump was orginal. I asked for the hydrolic kit for shifts, paid an additional $180 for it, and it wasn't even installed!!!!!! Total cost for my "rectal intercourse" that I didn't even get a reach-around on???? $1600. I have a 700R4 casing for that amount. It will cost me around the same to actually build it correctly, thank god Knudsen's Transmissions are great people and actually feel like they want to help make it right. MADDOG transmissions is gone, vanished, disappeared but make sure to register with the Florida BBB. There is a link to them on this board, I used it and so should you. My only hope, is since I paid for it by Mastercard, they can help cover some of my loss. If you have ANY info about this ***** Lou, email me please: curt.larkin@johnston.k12.ia.us. Thanks and I hope everyone comes out of this at least a bit more "educated".

To 1991CamaroRslow and others who have never been to the original Mad Dog Transmissions shop:

Don't be fooled. The similarities between Mad Dog, Goodfellas, and Outlaw businesses are no coincidence. The John in the picture not suprisingly looks very much like the John I met at the Mad Dog shop when I bought my own transmission... and I believe beyond a reasonable doubt that he is in fact the same John. I am not bashing Goodfellas though, because John may not be the one responsible for Mad Dog's downfall. He may simply be making an honest effort to start from a clean slate. Maybe John and Lou had a falling out and Lou is the true culprit? ...I wouldn't know.

Re: How long has your maddog tranny lasted?

This is Mad Dog Lou and since I see there is lots of trash talkin' going on here, I'm going to clear the smoke once and for all. I don't gossip or particpate in forums, but it's seems it may be time to address the truths that have evaded some of you. John Tsikouras was my former manager at Mad Dog Transmissions and my former trainee/employee. He used to come to my shop almost everyday begging me to teach him about my business and the transmission industry. He looked like a clean-cut, honest boy, so when an opportunity arose at my shop I decided to give him a chance. I took him under my wing, trusted him and even invited him to my wedding. I taught him alot about the transmission business and had hoped that he would be a long-time, loyal employee. It was brought to my attention that while I had trusted him to be running my business, he had actually started his Goodfellas Transmission business. When I found out, I had no other choice but to fire him on the spot. He basically replicated all my ideas, phrases and sales pitches to start-up his new business. Does this sound like a man with integrity? It is no secret that I have a new business, Outlaw Transmissions. My picture is even posted on my website. I would not make an attempt to insult the intelligence of my cusotmers who shopped around for the BEST TRANSMISSIONS in the industry and then purchased from me. My cusotmers made me who I am today. I have the upmost respect for all my customers past and present. Unfortunately, it took me a little longer to open the new business than I had anticipated. Does it sound like I'm trying to hide? I'm here ! The main reason Mad Dog Transmissions is now defunct is primarily due to the mis-mangement of the business operations while I was away. If I did not know the transmission industry, I would never have been able to sell thousands of units and stay in business that long. I have been building and selling transmissions before John Tsikouras was even born !!! I have had thousands of satisfied custmers throughout the years and I will continue to deliver superior products to all my customers. One things for sure, I'M BACK and building every single transmission that leaves my new shop, OUTLAW TRANSMISSIONS. I welcome anybody to watch me (from start to finish) rebuild a transmission with my own two hands !!! I doubt this former shampoo boy/ personal trainer can offer that to his customers. John Tsikouras had no transmission experience whatsoever before he came into my world. Unfortunately, MadDog's got too big for me to personally build all the units. Other rebuilder's had to be hired and trained to help build all the transmissions we had shipping out our doors every day. It was impossible for me to personally build each unit, however I did personally inspect transmissions when I was physically there. Beleive me , it was very disappointing for me to have to close down Mad Dog Transmissions and leave behind a name I fought so hard to build. I worked around the clock to keep my customers satisfied 100%. I don't know if any of you have ever had their own business, but I trusted a total of eleven employees and even spent $25,000 of video surveillance systems to help keep that shop under control. It just got way out of hand, and I take reposnsibility for that and apologize to any of my customers where were affected by that. Mad Dog's closed in June 2007. I will do the best I can to service all my former customers and those who have had issues with their Mad Dog Transmission. In the upcoming weeks, a new video will be posted on our new site www.outlawtransmissions.com.

I can be reached at 678-965-5338 for anyone wanting to speak with me like a professional. I will do my best to come up with a solution to make any of my former customers satisfied and help resolve any issues that they have had with their transmission. If you feel the need to curse or use any profanities, I have better things to do with my time. Get a lawyer and GET IN LINE !!!

They say "Imitation is the best form of flattery." It seems I may have even been able to teach some of my former employees how to make money using my business experience. I can name four companies out there today, who were employed by me, trained by me and lived through me. I was obviously doing something right. I will not continue to waste my time by having periodic pissing contests with fornmer employees or anybody over internet forums or mickey mouse e-mails. Do us both a favor and don't waste our time !

I will take this opportunity to announce my new business, Outlaw Transmissions, and let my old Mad Dog customers know that I'm here and I'm not going ANYWHERE !!! My efforts will be focused on running a new buinsiess and providing quality products to my customers and not wasting time with haters who love to use the internet to talk trash and spread rumors. THESE ARE THE FACTS !!!! If John Tskiouras called my shop, He did not talk to me or my wife as he claims and then again why would he.... Maybe only to tell you guys about some big secret he thinks he let out of the bag. What a waste of time!!! I thought people had more important things to do with their time. Maybe he should spend more of his time educating himself on how to rebuild a transmission. The only secret out of the bag is now THE TRUTH. You have a former, disgruntled Mad Dog employee who has no experience in the transmission industry other than what I "myself" taught him about selling transmissions in the year and a half he was employed by Mad Dog Transmissions.

Again, if you want to have a professional conversation without using profanities, I can be reached at 678-965-5338.

Thank you,
Mad Dog Lou

I will not tolerate bozos!

AAAHAHHAHAAAAA THE PLOT THICKENS! THIS IS BETTER THAN TV. I will say this for Lou, I've seen the same thing happen to Pro Fab and it really is a shame. If you fix all of the folks on this forum's transmissions though no one will have anything bad to say anymore. I'm sure alot of people are relieved to hear this.
