Location of MAP on a 1989, CODE 34
Hey all. Did the Search thing and there seems to be a dispute as to if the 1989 305 has the MAP sensor. My car clearly has a MAF sensor but throws a 34 code which claims to be a problem with the MAP sensor. When I went to purchase one, the Zone told be that it was not needed but EVERYONE else gave a part #. I have a new one here and am trying to figure out where it is located. Also, under the item description it said "manifold diff sensor". Could it possibly be called something else?
Sorry to go over this again but............Well, I need to get this thing fixed so I can have some summertime fun! Thanks.
Later,
Chris

Had the same problem with my 87. It turned out to be the burn off relay. I looked all over that car for a MAP, none. Your car doesn't have one either. Get someone to scan the code 34 page from a GM manual. It has a step-by-step walk thru to diagnose exactly what the problem is. I'd do it for you if I had a scanner.

Maybe someone could scan that page or at least tell me where to find it.
Thanks, in advance.

The only engine to have the MAP in 1989 was the L03 (305 TBI). All the others had the MAF, it is the round plastic cylinder sitting in front of your throttle body between it and your air filter and has an electrical connector on it.

Is it possible that a mid-year addition could have taken place?
Where then is it located for the cars that have it?
What would a code 34 mean then if I did not have it?
OMG, so many questions. Can you tell I'm a noob?

No, it is not possible for a mid-year addition to take place. The only way for your car to have a LB9 engine with MAP is for someone to convert it to MAP afterwards. Here is a picture of the MAF as it should be on your car along with a chart for trouble code 34. BTW, are you getting your codes from a haynes or chilton manual?
