Size Difference between the 200-4R and the TH350 transmissions??
Sorry for the multiple posts but I think the server is on it's last leg.
This is not exactly a thirdgen question but it is GM related and I know you guys and gals are smart and can help me out. I have the chance to buy an '83 S-10 with a good engine and no transmission. The original transmission was the old 200-4R automatic OD transmission that GM used in the early 80's before the 700R4 became the popular OD transmission. I know the 200-4R is a shorter transmission than the 700R4 but how does the 200-4R compare in size to the TH350 transmission?? I have a TH350 transmission with lockup that I plan on putting into the S-10 and I need to know if there's a size difference because if there is then I'm going to have to get a different driveshaft and relocate the tranny cross member. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Car: 87 IROC L98
Engine: 588 Alcohol BBC
Transmission: Powerglide
Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
Case length for the 200R4 is 27 3/4"
Case length for the TH350 is 27 5/8" for the short tailshaft and 30 5/8" for the long tail shaft. A short tail shaft TH350 could use the same driveshaft as the 200R4's.
Bellhousing to tranny mount for the 200R4 is 26 7/8"
Bellhousing to tranny mount for the TH350 is 20 3/8"
You would have to move the tranny mount ahead 6 1/2" for the TH350.

I am guessing you had a 200C not the 4R, A good friend of mine, who races an 83 s-10. It originally was a 2.8 and 200c tranny. Now it is a 350/350 combo. I'm guessing you will still most likely have to move the tranny mount, but just minimally(SP).

I did some research and found out the TH200C is only a 3 spd tranny but I also found out that GM didn't put the 200R4 in any S-10s in the early 80's. The manual I found reads as follows.
'82 with 2.8 liter 6 cylinder engine - TH200/C (3spd)
'83-'85 with 2.8 liter 6 cylinder engine - 700R4/4L80 (4spd)
'82-'85 with 1.9 liter 4 cylinder engine - TH200/C (3spd)
'82-85 with 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine - 700R4/4L80 (4spd)
I'm assuming there's a TH200 and a TH200C ... I'm guessing the C has electronic or computer controlled lockup. GM did afterall make a TH350 with electronic lockup so why not the TH200 too.

The TH200C & TH350C, both have electrical wiring going to a transmission plug, that is used for the torque converter lockup. The TH200 & the TH350 do not have a lockup torque converter, therefore no plug or electrical wiring.
