1991 700r4 won't go into park UPDATE: got park but NOTHING else

Hey guys, well my 700r4 transmission will not go into park. I've even gone underneath and disconnected the shifter linkage and tried moving the little "arm" into park myself, but reverse is as far as it'll go, so I know it's not a shift linkage issue. What's going on?

Re: 1991 700r4 won't go into park

UPDATE: Well this morning I had another go at it. Turns out I was low on trans fluid, so I topped it off and took a hammer and GENTLY tapped the transmission itself in different spots, hoping that would jar something loose. It did, I got park back, but now it's refusing to pop into anything else, meaning reverse, and all forward gears aren't coming in. And I can only move the selector in 2 spots, park, and reverse, although reverse just feels like the pawl is only disengaging because I tried starting the car in that position and it just rolled like it was in neutral. Is it time for a T5 swap boys?

The roller on the detent inside of the transmission may have broke. You can pull the pan and take a look at it. If it is it is an easy fix with the pan off.

Which part is that? I don't know too much about transmission internals. I dropped the pan today but didn't notice anything weird or broken, there was just some metallic goo on the magnet on the pan. And the weird thing is that when a quart or two of fluid had drained out, the shifter arm started moving like normal again, all the way from 1 to P and back no problem. And now with the pan dropped it's still continuing to function like normal. What's going on? If you need pictures of anything else just lemme know.

Do I dare just reassemble it, pour in some fluid and hope it continues to work?

And I forgot to mentioned that I had to roll the car a few feet a couple days ago. When the selector was in "reverse" (which acted like neutral) it would click as it moved. This was before I dropped the pan.
