Awesome ride dellman!!....As I look at your car, I realize it's exactly like mine was when it was stock....even down to the sand grey interior. I really like the interior mods and 4th gen dash upgrade. I think I'd like to do that to mine, but on these '83's I bet it was a lot of work!

Re: 1982-1984 Z28's pic thread!!!!!
That's exactly was I was referring to....for instance, my speedo and cruise control is pretty much straight mechanical with cables. I'm sure the 4th gen one is not, which means adding a circuit. I know the later thirdgen years used a sensor that plugs in where my existing drive went, but I'm sure that's just one of many things that need changed...does look great in the end though. But - it's getting tough to even find decent 4th gen parts now...

Ahhh...you're right!! Why does everyone do this??
I can understand if the original is toast, and one can't be found, but I see WAAAY too many 91-92 GFX (especially) being thrown on the 82-84's IMO.....
But - I guess those of us that kept thier 82-84's GFX will be the rarer ones...boils down to what you like in the end I guess....
EDIT: It's still a nice ride...(be better with original GFX though..lol)

Re: 1982-1984 Z28's pic thread!!!!!
I'm very glad to see all of the nice 1982-1984 Z28's here! Please keep posting pics and infomation of your early thirdgen project car - finished or not!
As a big thirdgen fan I'm glad see that there are many examples of the early thirdgen Z28's didn't end up in the glue factory or as the subject of a hacked up project that went too far beyond repair.
I have an IROC but I still wish my dad hadn't trashed his 1984 Z28 - he would have given that car to me! It was a fully loaded car to - even had the memory roll dial option in the roof. About the only option that car didn't have was the L69 motor and the Lear Siegler interior option. Other than that it was a fully loaded LG4 powered 1984 brown metallic Z28.
I still would have liked to have that car parked next to my IROC in the garage and I think about that car alot. I'm very glad to see that there are some early Z28's that didn't suffer the same fate that my dads old car did.
I thought about that car again today. Someone in my town just got a really clean all stock 1982-1983 Z28 that was the same color as my dads car. This car still even had the factory dual muffler set up that the 1982-1983 Z28's got - thats why I'm assuming that it was a 1982-1983 Z28. I can count on my hand now the number of early Z28's that I have seen that are in good shape in my area that I have personally seen.
Keep up the good work on keeping these early Z28's on the road - where they belong!

Here is one that I got in a barn that has been stored for 15 yrs. I'm trying to get all the leaks to stop!! It runs and will need some cosmetic work. But it still moves down the road just fine!

Wow looks like a twin sister to mine (83, pics on Page 4). Instead of chasing down all the leaks, I just replaced every hose/line that could be changed with all new Delco replacements. Good luck and post some more pics if you have any!

That looks really sharp! Where did you get the stripes from? Is there a kit made for the wheels or did you use that pinstripe tape stuff you can buy at the store?
I'd be curious to try it out my dark grey 83 with orange LS interior.

Anyway, just 1/8 inch red pinstripe from autozone....$3.99 mod. I removed the wheel and cleaned it well, then slowly went around the rim using the lip of the rim to keep it straight and not wavy. By the time I got to the fourth wheel I was pretty good at it! Lol
Best part...if you don't like it, just peel it off! Can do a variety of colors too, I just liked how red contrasted against a blue car.

"Borrowed" the idea from another TGO member (motobooks - you should check out his 1984 Trans Am build thread....excellent work!)

Since this is a pic thread, I had better post one. Riding on her $100 crappy storage rims and tires. Sweet eh?

Cool, I think I'll try that as my first mod of 2013! I also just remembered that I have the rims here at home in the basement so I can try it next week (car is ~45 min away in storage facility)

Some before and after pics of pinstriped rims. BTW, I think red pinstripe on your 83 would tie in nice with that awesome interior...and if not, just peel it off!

Sorry it took so long, finally got around to doing this. Looks like I used wider tape for mine. I'm unsure about it...car'guy me likes it...but ThirdGen purist me says I'm ripping off the 82 Pace Car.
Better pics to come soon...it's being entered in it's first indoor show in two weeks!!

I'll have to check, but I either used 1/4" or 3/8" stuff. It was extremely tedious to lay properly...I didn't do a perfect job (especially on the first one) but unless you're 1 foot away from the rim you can't tell. I'm happy with how they turned out and if I don't like them...it's a $5.99 mod.

Forgot to include my other mod...while I'll post a real pic of tomorrow...I ordered up the "USA-1" plate from the magazine adverts. I also got a real emblem from the selling dealership (not just a sticker like they use today)...I'm hoping to return the car to the "on the dealership lot" look.
